Royal Iced Heart Cookie to the rescue! Are you bored? If so, or if you just want to have some fun, here are some customizable and creative cookie design to make! These cookies are tons of fun to make with friends of family because they involve painting and pens (food writers of course!)

Check out the video tutorial here: https://youtu.be/01ewDvihOQQ

Ingredients and Tools You will need to Ice the Cookie Base:

Sugar Cookies (Click here for the video)
Royal Icing (Click here for the video)
Scribe Tool or Toothpick
2 Piping Bags
2 Couplers
#2 Piping Tip
#3 Piping Tip

First things first, is you need to allow your sugar cookies to sit on paper towel to absorb all extra oils. Why is this? because you don’t want any gross yellow oil rising into the white icing!

Next, make medium and thin consistency icing.

To make medium consistency royal icing add 1 teaspoon water to 1/3 cup royal icing and mix. Add an extra 1/2 teaspoon of water at a time to get a medium consistency; not too thick and not to thin.

To make thin consistency royal icing add 1 1/2 teaspoons water to 1/3 cup royal icing and mix. Add an extra 1/2 teaspoon at a time to get thin consistency (aka: flood consistency) icing. This consistency should be a bit thinner than the medium consistency.

Now that the icing consistencies are made, place them into 2 bags.

Spoon the medium consistency icing into a piping bag fitted with a coupler and #2 piping tip.

Spoon the thin consistency icing into a piping bag fitted with a coupler and #2 or #3 piping tip.

Begin Icing!

Ice the outline of the cookie using the medium consistency icing bag. Then, fill in the outline with the thin consistency icing bag. Use a scribe tool or toothpick to evenly distribute the icing.

Ingredients and Tools You will need to Decorate Cookie #1:

Iced Cookie Bases
Wilton Gel Food Coloring (any four colors of your choice)
Vodka
Paint Brush (with a thin brush tip)
Paper Towel

Decorating the the XOXO cookie is very simple.

Place about 1/2 teaspoon Gel food coloring into a cup/bowl/painters pallet and pour about 1 teaspoon of vodka over it. *There is really no exact measurement for this! Then mix it up. Do this with all four food coloring colors.

Dip your paint brush into the “water color paint” you’ve created and use it to write X’s and O’s on the cookie.

Pro tip: Make sure to clean your brush in between each “paint” color. It is also helpful to lightly wipe your brush before applying some “paint” so that you are not bombarding your cookie with too much liquid.
