Slow cooker magic
no stovetop needed!
There is no need to stand at the stove and stir. The crockpot does the gentle cooking for you, turning ripe peaches into a thick, jammy butter with bright lemon and warm vanilla-cinnamon flavor. Blend it smooth for a classic peach butter texture, or leave it a little rustic if that is how you like it.
Why you will love this crockpot peach butter
- Simple ingredients: Ripe peaches, sugar, and lemon, vanilla bean paste (or extract), and cinnamon are all you need.
- Hands-off cooking: Let the slow cooker gently soften and concentrate the peaches while you get on with your day.
- Easy to customize: Start with a small amount of vanilla bean paste and cinnamon, then taste and adjust once the peaches have cooked down.
- More than a toast topping: Spoon it onto yogurt, swirl it into oatmeal, serve it with gluten-free pancakes, or tuck it into a fall charcuterie board.
Ingredient notes
- Peaches: Choose ripe, fragrant fresh peaches that give slightly when pressed. Peel, pit, and roughly chop them before cooking.
- Sugar: A half cup balances the natural tartness of the peaches and helps the butter develop its glossy, concentrated texture.
- Lemon: The juice from half a lemon brightens the peaches and keeps the finished butter from tasting overly sweet.
- Vanilla bean paste: Start with 1 teaspoon, then add more to taste. Vanilla paste gives those pretty flecks and a warm bakery flavor.
- Cinnamon: Start with ⅛ teaspoon and add more only if you want a stronger warm-spice note. The peaches should still be the star.
How to make peach butter in the crockpot
Add everything to the slow cooker
Add the peeled, pitted, chopped peaches, sugar, lemon juice, vanilla bean paste, and cinnamon to the crockpot. Stir well so the peaches are evenly coated.

Cook until soft
Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours, or on high for 3 to 4 hours, until the peaches are very soft and juicy. Cooking time will vary with the ripeness and water content of the fruit.

Blend and reduce
Use an immersion blender or blender to blend the softened peaches until smooth. Prop the lid open slightly with a wooden spoon and continue cooking on high for 1 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally, until the peach butter is thick enough to hold its shape on a spoon. Taste and adjust the vanilla bean paste or cinnamon if needed.
Chef's tip
Reduce it until it passes the spoon test
Peaches vary in juiciness, so do not rush the final reduction. The peach butter is ready when a spoonful looks thick and glossy rather than watery, and it stays mounded on the spoon for a moment before slowly falling back into the crockpot.

Ways to use peach butter
- Spread it over toast, gluten-free biscuits, or English muffins.
- Swirl it into plain Greek yogurt or overnight oats.
- Spoon it over vanilla ice cream or use it as a filling for a gluten-free layer cake.
- Serve it alongside crackers and cheese on a summer or early-fall board.
Storage
- Refrigerator: Cool completely, then store in a clean airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
- Freezer: Freeze cooled peach butter in freezer-safe containers, leaving a little space at the top, for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator.
